Torn

I am looking at getting a new chronograph. It is type of watch I do not own and have never owned, other than some digital models when I was a kid. I still don’t like digital. It looks ugly and hard to read for me.

So, here are the two watches I am torn between:

Swatch “Irony Windfall”

Very Omega Speedmaster looking and the:

Seiko SDWC97P1

Costs more, but has a better movement and looks like a TAG.

Not sure which….

I really only want one more battery based Quartz watch since I discovered the joy of Automatics.  Both watches are nice, but the Seiko does more (alarm) but I like the look and price of the Swatch.

Why dont you go on e-bay and pick up a vintage mint condition seiko chronograph with the famed 6138 movement? Its automatic rotor works with total ease, the watch will run accurately forever and best of all the weight and feel of the watch is just-well it feels like your really wearing something that was designed by an artisan on your wrist. A minty 70s chrono will cost between $100-$275 depending. If thats too much-go with the new seiko-same reasons. Its just a more substantial watch. And I not only have over 30 swatches [the alarm scuba chrono I still wear] but I use to look down on seikos. No more. I now buy strictly vintage but I did buy one seiko chrono alarm that has the same movement as your 2nd choice. It looks more like a 70s retro though but it feels like a $1000 watch. I picked it up on e-bay slightly used for $45. Remember-Swatches can not be repaired[x-pt the auto quartz]. good luck

I should of added my other option would be a vintage Seiko. Overall, I am leaning much much more towards Seiko in either vintage or new. I love the quality. When I browse for watches, I find the Seiko on my wrist is of far better quality than the TAG, Swatch, or other Swiss brand I am looking at.
